MFA Concert: Off the Wall

Sarah presents the culminating project of her MFA career on a shared concert at Urban Arts Space with choreographers Quilan Arnold and Christine Ghinder on January 28 at 7pm, January 29 at 7pm, and January 30 at 3pm, 2016. More information

In Sarah Levitt’s Full Will, eight people assemble to attempt an unnamed act, preparing mentally and physically to do what no human being has done before. The performers drive themselves relentlessly through movement drills; hurtle into each other’s arms and up into the air; sing and shout their truths, all of the sake of accomplishing the impossible. This work examines the formation of a community of beliefs, and what happens at the intersections of doubt and conviction, hope and reality, and the present and future. An installation by Columbus-based artist Leah Frankel and sound design by Stowe Nelson provide the physical and aural landscape for the performers’ insatiable urges to do what (maybe) can’t be done.

Teaching at OhioDance Festival

I am teaching a master class at the OhioDance Festival on April 24 from 3:00-4:15pm. This event is open to festival attendees only. More information.

Class description: This advanced contemporary class examines the functional and expressive potential of the body by dancing along a spectrum of movement, from the everyday to the virtuosic, the irreverent to the vital. Traditional technique class elements, like weight shifts, swings, and tendus, emphasize a responsive resilience through the pelvis, spine, and limbs, articulate weight shifts, and an awareness of the body’s architecture. Solo and group improvisational structures weave between set exercises to investigate balance, momentum, directional changes, focus, and intention.
